Are you familiar with the phrase "missing the forest for the trees"? It basically means getting lost in the details so much as to miss the big picture. But when it comes to God, details are important. All of the big things that we see in creation are made up of smaller things --- things that may seem insignificant to us --- but not to God. The beauty of this autumn scene is made possible by the changing color of millions of leaves. And yet each leaf has a beauty of it's own which is created and cared for by God. God knows all the details and is the sustainer of everything. Colossians 1:16-17 says, "For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together".
We can't begin to fathom the complexities of everything that is involved with the creation that surrounds us. Processes that we don't see, but are necessary in sustaining the world --- these are all orchestrated and controlled by God. God cares for the animals as well. Jesus said in Matthew 5:29, "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father." God knows about and cares for each little sparrow as well as every other animal in this world. But His care for His creation doesn't stop there. He is most concerned about the crown of his creation -- people. In Psalm 139 David describes in detail how God knows all the details of our lives. He knew us before we were born. He saw us when we were developing in our mother's womb. He knows when we get up and when we lie down. God sees it all. And another remarkable thing is that God continually thinks about each of us. Psalm 139:17-18 reads, "How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you." God knows you completely and He loves you. Does that surprise you? He desires that you know Him too. If you do not know God, I want to encourage you to search for Him. God says in Jeremiah 29:13, "You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart". A great place to begin your search is in the Bible. Read the Gospel of John and get to know God and what He has done for you because of His great love for you.
