Sight is one of the five senses that most of us are blessed with from birth. So much of what we do involves sight. Our sight is a wonderful gift that we use daily, but often don't think about very much. One of the things special about our sight is the ability to see and recognize color. The human eye can distinguish approximately 10 million different colors. This fact alone differentiates us from the animal kingdom. Seeing color brings life to an image in ways that often go unappreciated until seeing that same image without it.
In April I spent a day in Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee. Much of what I photographed would have been unnoticed and possibly unseen had I not been able to see and differentiate between colors. A Trillium's beauty is not much to look at unless it is seen in color. This Red Salamander would probably have gone unnoticed had my sight only been in black and white. Why does God allow us to see and really appreciate the beauty of color? I think it has something to do with God sharing a glimpse of His glory and His greatness. Revelation 4:11 , "Our Lord and God, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because You have created all things, and because of Your will they exist and were created." Craig Jentink
