A Declaration From Heaven

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands.
                                                                       Psalm 19:1

"Glory" is defined as: high renown or honor won by notable achievements, and also,  magnificence or great beauty.  When it comes to the God of the universe, both of these definitions apply.  Consider for a moment how large the universe is.  Our Milky Way galaxy, a portion of which can be seen here, is 100,000 light years in diameter which equals 621,371,000,000,000,000,000 miles.  That's a big number!  The Milky Way is bigger than the average galaxy, but small compared to the largest galaxies.  Scientists tell us that there may be as many as 2 trillion galaxies in the known universe.  Our Milky Way galaxy contains an estimated 100 to 400 billion stars.  One can't even imagine the amount of stars in the entire universe.  The immensity of the heavens is truly awesome!  God created it and He sustains it.

With the naked eye we only see a small glimpse of the "expanse", but what we see is beautiful.  A starry sky is spectacular and almost mesmerizing to look at.  The beauty and magnificence of the heavens -- what can we compare it to?  The Bible tells us that "the heavens declare the glory of God".  The heavens tell us how great and magnificent God is.  The heavens show us what God can do and how big He is.  The most amazing thing though,  is that the all powerful, all knowing, ever present God wants to have a relationship with us.  He created us and keeps calling out to us through His creation that He is great, good, and loving.  He is the reason that we can take each breath, enjoy each sunset, think with our minds, and work with our hands.  Do you have a relationship with this God?  It is not only possible, it is His desire that you do.

The glory of God is unmistakable in creation, yet people reject God, or pretend He doesn't exist.  The reason for this is sin -- a disease that infects every person.  It began with the disobedience of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and it continues to this day.  "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned." Romans 5:12  Sin is rebellion against God and it is what separates us from a relationship with our Creator.   Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."  Because God is perfect, and holy, and just, He demands that our rebellion against Him be judged,  and His judgement against us is death.  Romans 6:23 is clear, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."  We all deserve death no matter how good we think we are.  Yet, the end of verse 23 says God has given a gift and that gift is His Son Jesus Christ.  "But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8  The greatest act of love that someone can show is to lay down their own life for someone else.  God's gift to us is Jesus!  "For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."   John 3:16   Confess your sinfulness to God and put your faith in Jesus Christ --- God promises you the  gift of eternal life.
